Father Tirso

Our annual novena in honor of St. Margaret Mary beginning this Tuesday, October 8th and ending on her feast day on Wednesday, October 16th. This year, I have invited different priests to celebrate the weeknight Masses during the novena as we learn more about the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit as well as the Seven Deadly Sins. Like our parish mission, this will be another opportunity to help us grow deeper in our faith and become stronger disciples of Jesus. I encourage everyone to come to as many nights of the novena as your schedule allows.

I chose to focus this year on the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit because they are essential for us in living out our Christian faith. These gifts are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. If we use these gifts as the foundation of our lives, we will have no problem becoming stronger disciples who not only follow the Lord ourselves but live lives that will inspire others to do the same.

I chose as well to focus on the Seven Deadly Sins because these are the biggest obstacles and temptations that hinder our discipleship. They are the root of all other sins and noticing them in our lives is half the battle. We have to understand the nature of these sins in order to be able to see their influence in and around us. In that way, we will be able to tap into the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit to overcome the sins that are the root of all other sins. The Seven Deadly Sins are lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride.

Again, everyone is invited to join us in learning about the Seven Gifts and the Seven Deadly Sins. You may feel free to invite family and friends as well to join us. Here is a preliminary line up of the priests who will be presiding at the Masses along with a detailed schedule of the events during our patronal novena.
